Nice for 5 nights?

 

Paris

 

See some of the main sites and then take time to wander along the River Seine and cross one of the beautiful bridges -- make a wish --- and soak up the atmosphere of this wonderful city --

 

Buy some old books or collectors magazines from the "bouquinistes" --

 

Find the oldest bridge in Paris and discover why its name is so unusual!! 

 

Visit the chapel built for the "Sun King" and see its beautiful stained glass windows - maybe take in a piano recital there?  

 

Walk along the river and find the little island called Ile des Cygnes which only locals know ---have a picnic with some fresh baguette, some pate and some lovely French cheese bought at a nearby local market -- and see the Statue of Liberty nearby ---

 

Pass by the Louvre and see the Carousel, book a dinner cruise on the River Seine for the evening??

 

Nice and the Riviera

 

Take the fast TGV train down to Nice - discover the famous Train Bleu in Gare de Lyon - is this a train?

 

Arrive by the fast comfortable TGV about 5 hours from Paris and arrive in this most interesting city with its Italianate buildings and fountains --

 

Wander through the old town to discover the interesting little Italian palace hidden away and open to the public. Find some of the beautiful Baroque style churches or discover a Russian cathedral and perhaps hear the choir singing --

 

Visit some of the colourful markets and take in the atmosphere -- browse the famous antiques market or the Marché aux Fleurs. Buy some sunflowers for your room?

 

Do a short cookery course and visit the market with the owner of the school who speaks English -- see chefs choosing their vegetables --  wander through the arches to the "Promenade" and discover why the bay is called "la Baie des Anges".

 

Discover the worlds of Marc Chagall and Henri Matisse and find out why they came to Nice, find out where the Maeght Foundation is and go for a day trip.

 

Picasso? Take a trip to see his museum at Antibes --

 

Take a side trip to Cannes or Menton --?

 

Perhaps take in a festival or two? Film festival -- Jazz, Citrus Fruit Festival, Festival of the Mimosas ---

 

Maybe go to a concert or the Opera? --- So much to do and all sounds wonderful!
